No I'm not being patriotic because of the darn Olympical Games. I just want to show you the two worlds the 'tweens are debating over: Disney and Gossip Girl also known as Marys (immaculate conception is the only way baby!) and Slutty McBackStab.
Saw this on Theme's blog and felt the need to share it with you all. Video art is hard to grasp and even harder to make sense of. It's even more subjective than the normal visual art we are all familiar with and most people from traditional realms easily dismiss them into the categories of commercialism. But this curated video series is explosive and though one can see the beginnings of a music video or ad campaign, you can't doubt its mystique.
The Heavenly States are Ted Nesseth, Jeremy Gagon, Genevieve Gagon and Masanori Mark Christianson.
The band has toured the US, Australia, the UK, Egypt and were the
first rock band to play Libya. Libyan-American producer, Jawal Nga
(Chasing Daylight, Underdog, The Clearing, Forty Shades of Blue) is
currently writing a screen play based on the band's tour in Libya.
For Delayer, The Heavenly States have decided to use their
collective studio experience to produce the record themselves, unlike
their earlier albums, which were produced by such big names as Jeff
Saltzman (The Killers, Two Gallants), Paul Oldham (Will Oldham's older
brother and main producer), and John Agnello (Dinosaur Jr., The Hold
Steady). Delayer is thick with sonic layers and, as Rolling Stone says
of their prior album, "delivers equal parts patchouli-soaked violin and
Superchunk-worthy melodies." Look for Delayer to hit stores in
February.
In Korean, Ulzzang means "best face". I just read it here and it's really amazing what Asian girls put themselves through just to look super kawaii or anime-like. Check out the process of putting contacts in to make your pupils looks so circular (& cute?), eyelid gluing and whiting out your face with foundation. Here's a more in-depth description I found:
짱 (jjang): Korean slang that means "best." Ulzzang means "best face" in
Korean and the word is used both online and in real life. Basically, an
ulzzang is someone who has a very attractive face, but most people use
the term to describe people who have become popular for their looks.
The
ulzzang craze started in South Korea. Many ulzzang wannabes post up
their pictures on various websites, and voting and chatting can be done
on many of them. Contests, both online and in real life, are often used
to pick the best ulzzangs, but you do not necessarily need to enter or
win. Some ulzzangs, however, have not relied solely on the internet.
For example, some have gained popularity at school for being
attractive. Most ulzzangs, however, use the internet to share their
photos, and that is how many become popular.
Many ulzzangs use
Haduri, which is a web camera program popular among teens in Korea.
People also take normal or digicam pictures. Some even use Photoshop to
edit themselves. Fakers don't make it far, and they usually get busted.
The most famous ulzzangs may earn celebrity status. Some
ulzzangs may even become real celebrities by going into acting,
singing, or modeling careers. Two examples of former ulzzangs are Goo
Hye Sun and Park Han Byul.
The two most known zzang categories:
Ulzzang/얼짱: Based on the face. 얼굴 (ŏlgul) means "face" in Korean.
Momzzang/몸짱: Based on the body. 몸 (mom) means "body" in Korean.
"Ulzzang"
with "zz" is the most common way it's written out in English on ulzzang
websites. Variations on romanization include eoljjang, uhljjang,
uljjang, and so on.
It's intriguing and the obsession has even gone to the kiddies as seen in the video below. Okay, the kids are really so cute. But what the hell is the point of this game?
