Gen Art's Screening Series: "The Promotion"

About two weeks ago, we screened the film The Promotion...hilarious!  And had a brief Q&A with the director, Steve Conrad and lead, Sean William Scott. Then, the following day Dave and I got to do a one-on-one with Sean who was just a sweetheart. Here's the first cut and the extended version, about an hour long with the full interview with Sean will be up soon.

No, I'm not Charlotte.

Last night I went to the premiere of Sex and the City and took Jami with me. I got there before her and got my photo taken on the red carpet, wristband, popcorn tix, etc. I spot a few friends and acquaintances and chatted a bit before Jami arrived. When she did we hurried up to the bar where they served a "healthy" cosmo made with VitaminWater - the drink was called "Carried Away" or "Carrie Me Away" or something similar. We avoided it like the plague and got the "Single & Sassy" or some self-proclaiming singlehood named libation and a plateful of sushi too.

Looking around, all of the girls sippin' their cosmos were dressed pretty fabulously. I was of course, in denim and a hippie, crochet wrap sweater that I love and I was comfy. I felt a bit underdressed, but really who the hell is going to check me out once the house lights go off and we're watching the flick. No one. Exactly.

We get to our seats and spot our gift bags filled with sassy movie tie-in stuffs: pink striped hat, note pads, lipstick pen, chocolates, beauty acoutremonts and a magazine. We rummage and once the movie started I was engrossed. I've seen between 5-9 episodess so, I was not your typical female fan(atic). In the beginning, I didn't think the plot was out of the ordinary or extraordinary - it dealt with the same single female problems and the anticipations of relationships extending further into marriage-hood. I admittedly sobbed when Big was smacked/mauled by Carrie's bouquet and when Miranda & Steve met one another on the bridge to re-commit to their relationship - the only reality in this movie. But overall, I thought the movie was a long drawl. I don't need to see it again anytime soon.

How NOT to Go See A Movie

Last Friday, I went to go see The Golem with Frank Black which was sold out with a rush line way the heck out there. Obviously, this was the show to go showcase your bad manners. The following scenarios occurred during the 86 minute show. I kid you not.

  1. Go solo and reserve primo seats for 10 of your closest friends with your one jacket. Scoff at people who don't realize it because your jacket range is two seats long.
  2. Arrive late. No, not during the dancing popcorn/previews/opening sequence that would be too considerate.
  3. Get it on with your date and block other people's view with your noggin and schnoze angle tilts.
  4. Chat with the people who you came with, even that guy all the way at the end of the aisle.
  5. Say it again. I don't think they heard you.
  6. Make loud obnoxious comments. The characters in the film need your suggestions.
  7. Snuggle with your date. Lay in one another's arms and yes, you can smack the person's (sitting behind you) knees, several times is cool.
  8. Look angrily at the people with serious faces.
