The Heavenly States Album Release Show of Delayer

The Heavenly States are Ted Nesseth, Jeremy Gagon, Genevieve Gagon and Masanori Mark Christianson.

The band has toured the US, Australia, the UK, Egypt and were the first rock band to play Libya. Libyan-American producer, Jawal Nga (Chasing Daylight, Underdog, The Clearing, Forty Shades of Blue) is currently writing a screen play based on the band's tour in Libya.

For Delayer, The Heavenly States have decided to use their collective studio experience to produce the record themselves, unlike their earlier albums, which were produced by such big names as Jeff Saltzman (The Killers, Two Gallants), Paul Oldham (Will Oldham's older brother and main producer), and John Agnello (Dinosaur Jr., The Hold Steady). Delayer is thick with sonic layers and, as Rolling Stone says of their prior album, "delivers equal parts patchouli-soaked violin and Superchunk-worthy melodies." Look for Delayer to hit stores in February.

Gen Art's Screening Series: "The Promotion"

About two weeks ago, we screened the film The Promotion...hilarious!  And had a brief Q&A with the director, Steve Conrad and lead, Sean William Scott. Then, the following day Dave and I got to do a one-on-one with Sean who was just a sweetheart. Here's the first cut and the extended version, about an hour long with the full interview with Sean will be up soon.

3rd Annual Haight Street Fair Party

Someday our kids will know the story of how cool their parents once were. Every year we cause a ruckus and it builds up to even more and more people who help the cause. This year it was no different, but to protect the people involved photos/names will be omitted and this post will be in true Sei Shonagon fashion.

  • Motor boating
  • Thigh shots?
  • Rum from Belize + Pineapple Juice = Panty Ripper (punch)
  • Apt hopping through windows
  • One man down before 5 pm
  • Another man had to miss it all due to a hockey game. He lost.
  • Classy jello shots made with acai berry liquer
  • Yelling at smokers
  • Throw the mouthwash away
  • Trippin' while hailing a cab.
  • You cannot run outside with a bottle of Baileys in hand. There are cops.
  • The tampon box is not a toy.
  • Commando
  • The gays got us all crunk. Damn panty rippers.

Fashionistas

Last night, my calendar stars were aligned and I actually made it to my friend's monthly mixer of female entrepreneurs at Ramblas that recently just opened a "chapter" in San Francisco. The wonderful and inspiring women I met were from all different backgrounds, but all seemed to run parallel since my friend and I run in the same fashion circles. They were animators from Pixar, haute couture/fashion/accessories designers, fashion/beauty PR and a woman who started a business selling one of a kind painters' accessories. It was an interesting group indeed as we all discussed what we are all currently looking for and just to find out what is out there. It was just nice to actually go out and meet ambitious women who are work-a-holics like myself and I'll slowly introduce their lines and wares here once I get my business cards in order.

Discarded08

Today, I also had the pleasure of meeting with two lovely women who are doing such a great thing for St. Vincent de Paul. For three years, they have put on Discarded to Divine, a fashion show and auction to re-vamp the surplus of women's clothes at SVdP into extreme haute couture designed by fashion students and local designers, to be worn on the runway and auctioned. I just took a tour of all of the garments and it really is amazing what a piece of thread and handy work with a needle (in a sewing machine) can do. It simply blew my mind.

This is an event you cannot miss and not only is this a good fundraiser for SVdP, but it is a great way to get people interested in becoming more "green". Here's what you can do to help: (1) buy tickets and (2) donate MEN's clothing to SVdP - the ladies were telling me their clientele is 90% male and they definitely need the basics to take charge of their life again. So, people who read this (all 10 of you, I know where you live I have analytics tracking your every move. jk.) raid your grandfathers', uncles', dad's, brother's, husband's or boyfriend's closet because you know half of his stuff he hasn't even looked at, knows exists or couldn't fit in to anymore.

We can be hip, if even for a day.

We had our first annual Post-Holiday Hipster Party at the O'Kaufman's in the Noe Valleyz. We wore tight pants, had jell-o shots, Polaroids, hoodies, ironic tees, corn dogs, tater tots, wayfarers and the pissiest 'tudes this side of the Mississippi, err Golden Gate Bridge. Now, for your viewing pleasure here are some fotogs.
