This reminds me of the time I was debating between naming this blog: chark attack -or- nerd alert. Maybe I'll just have to find another project and call it "Nerd Alert!".

Elaine also moved to DTLA and is just a block away! Hurrah! She was in need of furniture so, we headed to the Pasadena City College Flea Market designed to benefit students through scholarships and supported programs. She first fell in love with the yellow chairs (came in a set) but left when the price wasn't right even after some bargaining. Then, we ran into this white vinyl chair, a steal for sixty bucks if you can haul it yourself, but she left her heart with the original yellow chairs. We returned to the vendor and offered an even lower price for the pair and voila, they were hers.
I on the other hand, wasn't so lucky and was turned down not by the vendor but by the hubster. Waaah.

What you need to do when you are in Downtown L.A. for all of Thursday, August 13th. And I truly do mean the entire freaking day.
Barneys Warehouse Sale
The first two days it'll be open to the insane shopping public at 8:00 AM and will run until 9:00 PM in its new location at the LA Convention Center's South Hall. Be prepared to pay $12+ for parking, an elbow or two and to disrobe on the spot if you must. Wear some spandex for a more accurate fit or guesstimate.
EM Productions
The fashion house of Grai, Grey Ant, IRO, Onward into the future, Scout, Seneca Rising and Society for National Dress are hosting a sample sale Thursday + Friday from 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM at the Cooper Design Space (Room 402). Never been to this showroom so, I'll go investigate...
Downtown Art Walk
The festivities will start at noon (thank GOD!) and with 39 galleries to hit up it couldn't have started any earlier. Check out the map up top to print and plan out your day. Take note of galleries closing early like the not to be missed Museum of Neon Art which closes at 2:00 PM.
Pacific Electric Lofts Sidewalk Sale
I can't speak for everyone, but stop by the Chark Attack booth where I'll have vintage goodies. We'll be open between 5:00 PM until 10:00 PM. 610 S. Main Street (at 6th Street)

My blog design needs a makeover something along the lines of yellow and grey. I'm just not feeling the airy light design. But who knows what transpires when I take a crack at it. Oh it's been a while since I've done anything artistic...I've been geeking out on other things like this morning I finally reset my Skype password and got on a video (conference) chat with dear, ole' Kat who moved to Prague about a week ago. She's already got an apt and cell phone, but it's expensive to call on those things especially since we'd be fighting over who gets to tell a story next...so free and fabu Skype it is! The video was a bit wonky most times and since I was slouched on my bed with my computer on a pillow (since it's overheating or just hot) only the top 1/3 of my noggin was in view. But wow it's so easy to keep in touch with technology these days. I know I sound like a granny, but ooooh the wonders of the interwebs (stop mocking reader!). Next time, we're going to try to do a 3-way video chat with Sarah on iChat, but it's going to take some massive coordination with Kat in CET, Sarah in EST and me in PST. Ahhh can't wait until we're all in NY again.

Limn and Roche Bobois are expensive, definitely eye-only-candy to my hubby's pocketbook but it doesn't mean this girl can't dream. And I do, in super-fantastic multi-color craziness which can make people think I'm nuts, but hopefully in a good way. Explanation of my color crazed world done and here's what I'm talking about, The Mah Jong Sectional designed by Hans Hopfer in Missoni Home fabrics. It's beautiful, comfortable, eye-popping and kid-friendly (nope, wait 7 years baby).
Ahhhhh. <swoon> (wipe drool) <close mouth>
And the of course since each piece costs between $700 (throw pillow) to $1200 (half of a chair) there is a knock-off by our good friends at PB Teen. But I want the real deal so, I have to either find a paying job or sell my soul to the devil credit card companies.

I thought it was really funny when I read this post on Apartment Therapy since the tables looked so familiar. A-ha! Those tables hold up the outdoor plants at the hubby's parents house and the writer of the post boasts eye-ing a bargain at 650.USD (the same way I would) while the hub's 'rentals have 4-6 Jasper Morrison Marble Plate Table scattered outside braving the elements and palming a bonsai or two.
I should have known that this house was a design/vintage treasure (his dad was an architect & designed some of their furniture) from some of the odds and ends that have caught my attention, like the classic Gucci belt hanging in the closet, old-school leather belt hole-punch, Gucci monogram briefcase with a gift certificate from the 70s/80s, super vintage bottle of champagne in velvet lined case (which was definitely not good to drink, but cool to look at) and the Yves Saint Laurent towel I spotted Mika (the dog) using as a potty training tool a few years back.

I was about to submit my design for HP's Design to Inspire Contest, but I just read the contest rules and I'm not eligible since the hubs was a previous employer of the sponsor. Big bummer. Here's what I wanted to submit, Monster Rock. I think I would have had a chance.
